{"id":425,"date":"2016-08-16T00:22:12","date_gmt":"2016-08-16T00:22:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gabrailcancercenter.com\/?page_id=425"},"modified":"2021-02-19T12:13:26","modified_gmt":"2021-02-19T12:13:26","slug":"symptom-management","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/dev.gabrailcancercenter.com\/index.php\/symptom-management\/","title":{"rendered":"Symptom Management"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; color: #000000;\"><strong>SYMPTOM ALERT<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">If you have any of the following call your doctor;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: circle;\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: circle;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">Temperature of 101 degrees or higher, shaking or chills<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">Diarrhea more than four times per day<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">Unable to drink for 24 hrs<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">Vomiting even though you have taken your nausea medications<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">Difficulty swallowing or sores in your mouth<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">Blood in your urine stool or vomit<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">Coughing up blood<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">Unusual bruising<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>REMEMBER TO NOTIFY THE DOCTOR BEFORE:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: circle;\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: circle;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">Having any dental work or minor surgeries<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">Receiving any immunizations or vaccines<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">Traveling long distance or leaving the country<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>NAUSEA AND VOMITING MEDICATIONS:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">Sometimes you may be prescribed additional medication to control the side effect of\u00a0 Chemotherapy Induced Nausea and Vomiting (CINV) from your treatment;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: circle;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">Zofran or Kytril: take one tablet the morning after chemotherapy<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">Compazine 10mg take one tablet every 6 hours\u00a0 for 3 days following your chemotherapy treatment even if not experiencing nausea<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">Phenergan suppositories 25 mg, insert one rectally every 6 hours as needed, to be taken in addition to oral medication when nausea and vomiting persists<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><strong style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">TAKE THE MEDICATIONS AS DIRECTED FOR THE SPECIFIED NUMBER OF DAYS WHETHER OR NOT YOU ARE EXPERIENCING NAUSEA. DO NOT SKIP DOSES.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>COPING WITH SIDE EFFECTS:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">If you have questions about side effects you are not alone. Before chemotherapy starts most people are concerned about what side effects they will have and what they will be like. Once treatments begin people who have side effects want to know the best way to cope with them. Remember that every person doesn\u2019t get every side effect, and some people get few, if any. Whether you have a particular side effect, and how severe it will be depends on the kind of chemotherapy you get and how your body reacts. The doctor and nurse will discuss which side effects are most likely to occur with your chemotherapy, how long they will last, how serious they might be, and when you should seek medical attention for them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">Always remember if you have any questions please discuss them with your nurse or with your doctor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>Dr. Gabrail is available 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
